After weeks of rumors, centering mostly on Jonah Hill, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed the cast of Transformers 2. Joining the just-announced Rainn Wilson, and the already confirmed LaBeouf, will be Megan Fox, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson and John Turturro.Of course, director Michael Bay is returning to helm it, as well as the original writers Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, who are joined by Ehren Kruger.
No word on story details yet, but filming has already begun in Los Angeles. It will move to Pennsylvania, and then overseas. Photos have been cropping up on the Internet already, though largely of scaffolding and trucks at this point.
Perhaps this is a good time to confess that I still haven't seen the first Transformers. I never watched the cartoon either, because it was a boy show. The only encounter I had with it was via a coworker of mine, who had the above logo tattooed in purple ink on his chest. I was given a Bumblebee figure in a swag bag long before the movie came out and I kid you not, it was the first time I knew Transformers had names. I'm not even sure my current position here at Cinematical will ever encourage me to see it because it just isn't my thing. Unless you guys tell me I'm missing the second coming of cinema ... and even then, I don't know.
Is it good news the entire cast has returned? Were you looking for fresh faces this time around, or are you comforted by the familiar presence of LaBeouf? What the heck is the sequel going to be about? Was there a good deal of uncovered cartoon ground in the first film? Please educate me, dear readers, and be nice. I could go look it up on Wikipedia but that won't be as much fun.

1. I thought Transformers was, without any doubt, the worst film I watched last year. Honestly, I thought it was only a step above Alone in the Dark. The entire film made me miserable. Did I need to watch Shia LeBouf spend 20 minutes looking for reading glasses?
The low point, though, was John Turturro. I am a big fan of Mr. Turturro, but I found him wholly unwatchable in this movie. His character sucked. His acting sucked. Everything about him sucked. Any second he was on screen was painful.
So, having him return is a surefire way to make sure I hold on to my time and money with this one, although this was little chance I'd bother seeing it, anyway.
